Summary

Seen does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. The app works fully offline. Your seen / favorite / visit history is stored only on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Deleting the app removes all local data. No analytics, no crash reporters, no third-party SDKs are included.

What we don't do

• We do not have user accounts, sign-ups, or authentication.
• We do not run a backend or any servers that receive data from your device.
• We do not include analytics, telemetry, advertising, or attribution SDKs.
• We do not share or sell any information about you.
• We do not track you across apps or websites.

Data stored on your device only

The following data is stored locally on your iPhone, in the app's private container, and never leaves your device:

• Seen / favorite history — which paintings you've marked as seen or favorited, with timestamps.
• Visit history — automatic clusters of your sightings into museum visits.
• App preferences — UI settings such as sort order or filter selections.

This data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework. iCloud sync is not enabled in v1.0. You can delete all data at any time by deleting the app.

Network access

The app makes network requests in only one situation: loading painting images from public art-museum CDNs (Wikimedia Commons, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Rijksmuseum). These requests retrieve public-domain images and do not include any identifier about you. Apple's standard URLSession is used; no third-party HTTP client is bundled.

If you have no network connection, the app remains fully functional except for image loading.

Location

If you tap Near me to find museums near you, iOS will request a one-time When In Use location permission. Your location is used only on-device, only at that moment, to sort the museum list by distance. It is never stored, logged, transmitted, or associated with any account. If you decline the permission, the app continues to work — only the distance-sort feature is unavailable.

Children's privacy

Seen is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. Because we collect nothing, no special handling under COPPA / GDPR-K applies.

International users

Because we collect nothing and have no servers, there is no transfer of personal data across jurisdictions. The app is the same offline-first app whether you use it in the EU, US, UK, or anywhere else.

Changes to this policy

This policy applies to v1.0 and will be updated only if a future version adds any network-dependent feature that involves your data. Users will be notified in-app before any such change takes effect, and prior versions of this document will remain available at this URL with their effective dates.
